OUTGOING iccifp chairman’s corner
the institute of certified construction industry financial professionals
BY CHUCK ELYEA, CCIFP, OUTGOING CHAIRMAN
Reflecting on Progress & the Bright Future Ahead
My time as ICCIFP Chairman and an Officer has been exciting, fast-paced, and rewarding. Here are some
initiatives that were put in place over the past four years, which would also not have been possible without
the help of our hardworking and gracious volunteers.
Marketing Strategy Development
We shifted our emphasis toward ICCIFP brand awareness and increased building external recognition of
the CCIFP designation by investing in our value proposition. We also developed a new website for the
Institute that further supports our marketing goals, with a new section targeting influencers such as CPA
firms, owners, recruiters, sureties, and banks. We have also focused on emphasizing public accounting
and presented the benefits of having CCIFPs on staff.
We transitioned from sharing the CFMA member database to a unique system that houses information specific to the Institute. This switch ensures ease of tracking and reporting information and
provides the public with an interactive, easy-to-use interface to search and easily access ICCIFP
Online Application & Recertification
Learning Builder, the online application and recertification service provider, allows us to scale the
organization without additional manual processes. Some key features include automated tracking
of candidates anywhere in the application process and logic that rejects applications that do not
meet eligibility requirements; automated billing for certification renewals; and a more robust CPE
Computer-Based Testing & Revisions to the Exam Policy
The Institute went from a paper and pencil exam held in fewer than 20 locations annually at predetermined dates and times to self-scheduled exams that can occur in over 500 locations nationwide.
Computer-based testing also eliminated the potential liabilities inherent in shipping exams to and from
testing locations. We reduced both the wait period and fees to retake the exam if candidates are unsuccessful to two weeks and $300, respectively. The policy was changed to encourage candidates to take the
exam sooner since our move to computer-based testing.
Finally, I’d like to thank my predecessors for everything they have contributed to ICCIFP. Our Board
of Trustees and Committee members have also worked tirelessly and deserve many thanks. I’ve been
humbled to be your Chairman for the last year, and I can say with certainty that you will be in good hands
as Herb Brownett assumes the role. n
